EUROPE FOR CITIZENS programme

EUROPE FOR CITIZENS EU programme aims to bring Europe closer to its citizens through international exchanges and European cooperation projects. The European citizenship is the core concept for this EU programme.




For the 2014-2020 programming period, the budget for the programme will be about 185.5 million euros.

EUROPE FOR CITIZENS programme is structured as follows:
  • STRAND 1 EUROPEAN REMEMBRANCE
  • STRAND 2 DEMOCRATIC ENGAGEMENT AND CIVIC PARTICIPATION
    • Town Twinning
    • Networks of Towns
    • Civil Society Projects.

OBJECTIVES AND PRIORITIES

The objectives for the programme are:
  • Contributing to understanding of the EU, its history and its diversity;
  • Fostering European citizenship and European civic and democratic participation;
  • Promoting European remembrance.
In 2015, the programme will focus on the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and a debate on the future of Europe expected by its citizens.
